Our Society was founded in 1997, as Stourbridge Decorative and Fine Arts Society, and has been a dynamic, welcoming society ever since.  In 2017, in line with the re-branding of the national Arts Society organistion, our name changed to The Arts Society Stourbridge.

We meet monthly on Thursday mornings, except in July and August, and we have a Christmas Lecture and lunch in December.  Currently we have no waiting list; prospective members should contact the Membership Secretary, Lesley Rowlands-Roberts, by telephone on 01384 390275 or email  at

Members receive The Arts Society REVIEW magazine, published quarterly.

Lectures are held monthly on Thursday mornings (except in July and August) at 10.55 am in Stourbridge Town Hall.  Attendees usually gather from 10.15 am when refreshments are served and lectures usually finish by 12.15. Exceptionally the AGM starts at 10.30 am before our April lecture. A limited number of guests are welcome to attend, if space permits, at a charge of £10.  A member maybring a guest on 2 occasions during the lecture programme year.

Twice a year, we organise Special Interest Days which enable up to 50 members of the society to study a topic in greater depth than is possible with the monthly 1 hour lecture. We have tea or coffee on arrival at 10 am and provide a tasty lunch. The day is split into 3 sessions each lasting about an hour. There is ample opportunity to ask questions and study days are normally great fun as well as being informative.

We normally organise one overseas trip each year: in 2013, we went to Vienna; in 2014, our overseas visit was to north-east Italy centred on Bologna, including a visit to Ravenna to see the mosaics; in 2015 we visited Provence, in the footsteps of Cezanne and Van Gogh; and in 2016 we explored the history and heritage of Porto and Santiago de Compostela.  In 2017, we went to Budapest, in 2018 we toured Romania and in 2019 we invaded Sicily !
